Thermal Stress Analysis of a Pump Housing
A steady state thermal analysis was needed to solve issue in Ansys 17.2. To solve the for the thermal stress across the pump housing I had to assign locations for the heat to be generated from and add in the concept of convection to the environment. I determined the temperature could reach up to 90 degrees Celsius at some points. The biggest takeaway from the results was the safety factor (seen to the right). I found that while most of the pump housing has safety factors between 10 and 15, there are various locations where the safety factor drops to 0.429. This means that at this pump temperature and under these conditions, the part fill fail.
